Why We Came Up With The Port-A-Light

The motivation for EZ Port-A-Light was born on a fall Saturday afternoon of 2007. For me, the motivation was more out of frustration due to inadequate, fragile lighting while performing routine maintenance on my wife’s car.

Earlier in the day I had everything ready to go; car on ramps, drain pan placed under the engine, all tools required placed near the drain pan, Creeper ready for me to roll-on, rags handy, drop light plugged in and tested. I proceed under the car and find a place to securely hang the light, first place I chose wasn’t ideal as the light was shinning more in my face than where I was trying to light. I proceeded to try a find just the right spot and one slip, the light fell to the ground and broke the filament in the bulb, no more light. I then slide out from under the car and grab another bulb and replace the broken unit, all is good I’m back under the car in no time. Still struggling a bit with actually lighting where I was working but making do-with-it, I then went to roll out from under the car to grab a new oil filter and “bam” there goes the light again to the concrete floor. I had caught the drop light cord with the creeper and it caused the light spin, fall and break another filament. So, there I was on my creeper under the car with no light for the second time in about 5 minutes, frustrated starring at the engine, in the dark and the “light-bulb” went off in my head so-to-speak. I need a light that is cordless, that I can easily mount to my creeper yet still be adjustable that I can shine where I want to.
A few weeks later, the first EZ Port-A-Light prototype was attached to my creeper and working just as I had envisioned, perfectly. What was great is the fact I could use it in and around the garage and could give it to my wife when I was finished and she found it to be a great reading light in bed or in her favorite chair. 

We are now motivated to help everyone keep frustration away by being able to “Lightn’ it up” in so many situations with convenience, flexibility and ease of use.
